Hercules Against the Moon Men, directed by Giacomo Gentilomo, comes to Retromedia in a slightly above-average, if not nearly perfect, edition. The source material looks very grainy at times, and also a bit washed out in some shots, but wherever this movie came from, it was a legitimate enough source to include an original trailer that's pretty entertaining in its own right. The disc's makers have tried their best here, with a source print of highly variable quality; what we end up with is adequate and fun, and is at least of superior quality to, say, the company's release of The Giant of Metropolis (which would make a great double-feature pair-off with this film). Otherwise, the disc offers six chapters and opens on a menu that includes access to the film's original trailer as well as production stills from the movie and a look at the Retromedia catalog. The play option is in the default position on the two-layer, five-selection menu, which is fairly straightforward. For comparison, Alpha Video's release is poorer but also about half the price of Retromedia's, while Something Weird Video's version is more expensive but offers a better transfer and numerous bonus features and an entire additional movie. The absence of a supplement may be the only serious flaw here - after all, this company did give us a serious bonus on its disc of The Giant of Metropolis, in the form of an interview with its star.
